Jump…

Zechariah 4:10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin

We have all, at some point, tried to imagine our place of calling. Dreamed of our purpose in life – only to fall back into the routine of living when things become too much to handle. It’s like I really want to find my purpose, and bathe in it, but right now these bills need to be paid. I really want to find the place where my ministry, passion and creativity meet but for now, my family is asking me what’s for dinner. We feel like we must decide what gets priority in our lives and typically those things that bring us joy, those things that fill us with an overwhelming sense of purpose are relegated to the proverbial back burner because life is lifeing.

I’m not saying we can’t find space and time for the things that bring us closer to our purpose, I’m just saying it’s not going to be easy. We can’t turn around when the way before us doesn’t look like we think it should – or if the path we are on isn’t as grand as we planned. Finding time for our purpose requires us to think differently – it requires us to renew our minds and give ourselves room and permission to fail. I know failure sounds scary but stay with me for a moment…

When we stand on the sidelines of life, waiting on the perfect time to jump in, rocking back and forth on the outside of the double-dutch ropes, we must admit to ourselves that we won’t jump in because we are afraid we might fail, or the beginning may appear insignificant. The good news for us is that God doesn’t count how many times we jump. God rejoices in seeing the work begin. I want you to know that failure is not the end. Just like our sin doesn’t have the last word, neither does failure.

Jump. Give it your all. And if you get caught in the ropes, jump again beloved! You will soon find your rhythm.

Prayer Focus: Ask God to help you begin.
